Great price, solid for a beginner rig. This rig will not be steady enough without a counterweight. You will want a 3LB counter weight. Here is how to build one that looks professional and only costs about $5.00. I went to the hardware store and bought 2 - 4" hex bolts (metric thread 8.8) and 50 - 2" washers. You will also want 2 nuts with nylon inserts that thread onto the carriage bolts. put 25 washers on each bolt tighten on the nylon nut and then wrap tightly in electrical tape or paint them black. You can also dip them in black epoxy or resin and let it harden. You are just doing this for aesthetic reasons and hiding the fact that you have 50 washers on the back of your rig as a weight. Then, instead of putting the 2 blue pipe caps on the ends of the pipes behind the shoulder pad, thread the bolts you just made into the pipes. (When you buy the bolts, take one of the pipes with you to make sure it will thread all the way onto the bolt. I have included pics of my weights... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this DIY rig, takes a little manipulation but cheap(er) and worth it., October 24, 2014

Really works well. I had to use a wrench to tighten all the keys (with a rag underneath to protect the finish), but I used it with Neewer follow focus, CN-160 led light (added battery with charger), and Takstar mike. So for less than $200 I had a pretty cheap, yet functional home camera / video set up for DSLR. Once the follow, system, and camera were a team, I added the Opteka dual cold shoe splitter with the mike and light, and presto: you have the basis for what I think are the essentials for a do-it-yourself version of a home video camera.

I videotaped my first son's birth with this a week ago, and the results are amazing. I don't have editing software, but if I did I imagine the quality would be film quality (which I will do when I have professional software). I am a little too lazy to upload a video, but attached is a pic.

Follow the comments for the follow focus: it really has to have the screws tightened for a correct follow. You can not really see in... Read more
